Dharamsala is located in the Kangra valley,
in the Dhauladhar mountains, northern India and became the
capital of the Kangra District in 1852. It is accessible by
road from Pathankot, which is 120 km away. The nearest railway
connection is found at Kangra Mandir, situated just 20km south
of Dharamsala. Gaggal at Kangra, about 15km southwest of Dharamsala,
has an airport where a flight operates to and from Delhi daily.
Also running from Delhi to Dharamsala are private or government
buses (deluxe, sleeper and AC).

Dharamsala is divided into two very different
parts. Kotwali Bazaar and areas further down the valley are
called Lower Dharamsala, while McLeod Ganj and surrounding
areas are known as Upper Dharamsala. McLeod Ganj is situated
approximately nine kilometers by bus via the main road or
four kilometres by taxi up the hill from Dharamsala.
There are many activities to keep you occupied
during your stay in McLeod Ganj. If learning how to cook your
own Tibetan meal, attending massage, reiki or meditation sessions
or simply taking a stroll on one of the numerous walks around
the area is not enough to satisfy you, then you can volunteer
your time on either long or short term basis to one of the
numerous organisations dedicated to Tibetan affairs or the
increasing refugee community.
In the centre of town, Bhagsu Road is just
off Main Chowk, this is also where the bus and main taxi stand
is situated. Green Hotel, Restaurant and Cyber Café
is 300 metres down Bhagsu Road, on the right hand side.
You can't miss it. Better still: you shouldn't!
See you soon in Green Hotel.
Apart from being residence to his Holiness,
the 14th Dalai Lama and the headquarters of the Tibetan Government
in Exile, McLeod Ganj is a major tourist hub. Learn more about

Thousands of Tibetan refugees have flocked
here over the past years making life in McLeod Ganj distinctively
Tibetan. The high altitude and cool weather similarly help
create a typical Tibetan environment. Nevertheless, the township
itself is packed with numerous tourist services and activities
to keep you contently occupied: ranging from small market
stalls and convenience stores through to video halls and shops
brimming with interesting Tibetan artifacts and handicrafts.
